This semester, I had the opportunity to take a very interesting and informative class at Arkansas State University. Marketing Management, taught by Ms. Abbi Siler and Dr. Melodie Philhours, was my first and only night class in my college career and it was definitely an experience. Despite the class running into my bed time, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It didn't just feel like a typical college class, though. This class felt like it was an actual job, with deadlines to meet and weekly sales presentations. And that's exactly what I believe Ms. Siler and Dr. Philhours were trying to accomplish with this course. I feel better prepared for a career in not just the marketing field, but a career in any field.
The students in class were required to keep up with a blog. I had always wanted to have a blog, but never knew where or how to do it properly. This semester-long project has definitely given me the knowledge I need to have a successful blog. We were also tasked with running a social media page with an organization on campus. I was in a group with Astate's chapter of AIGA, mostly working on their Facebook page. We started out with about 40 or 50 likes, and with a few months of posting statuses and engaging with out audience, we reached our semester goal of 150 likes and even surpassed it to 157 likes (as of today).
I would recommend this class to students of all majors because while the mater may be more marketing-centered, it can be tailored and applied to any profession.
One more thing, it would be great if you guys would go like Astate AIGA's Facebook page and follow them on Twitter and Instagram (astate_aiga). Thank you!
